My Blog Poem #9

"Comforting Words"

The Resurrected Christ

Remember ... God is by your side -
Wherever you may be!
His loving arms are open wide -
To comfort you and me!

God is never far away -
No matter where you are!
His ears are open when we pray -
In sickness, sorrow, peace, or war!

Remember ... God said, "Do Not Fear -
For I Am There With You!"
His righteous hand is very near -
And He will see you through!

So when life's battle rages -
Remember ... God is there!
He's been there through the ages -
And He Will Always Care!

My Blog Poem #8

"Budded On Earth To Bloom In Heaven"

In Memory of Delbert Pershing Decker
The Brother I Never Knew
(March 28, 1919 to April 2, 1919)

There's a grave on a hilltop in Kentucky.
On the headstone - these words I read:
"Budded On Earth To Bloom In Heaven."
(It's only the body that's dead.)

The first-born of Solomon and Rose Decker -
Delbert's body lies beneath that sod.
He's the infant brother I have never seen.
As Mama said:  "Delbert's with God!"

God saves the souls of innocent babies -
And little children's sins He'll pardon.
Budded On Earth ... Now Blooming In Heaven -
He's another Flower To Brighten God's Garden!

Mark 10:14 - "Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God."  (King James Version of The Bible)

My Blog Poem #7

"Mama's Homes"
In Loving Memory Of My Wonderful Mother
ROSA BELLE HERALD DECKER
(July 19, 1884 - July 3, 1975)

Near Rosine, Kentucky, God opened the door -
To my Mama's first home in 1884.
There He sent a sweet baby to live on this earth.
She was never rich or famous, but He knew her worth!

Mama's childhood home (with three sisters and a brother) -
Was a Christian home with both father and mother.
In that busy farm home ... they found time to play -
And there in that home Mama learned to pray.

According to our good Lord's plan for her life,
She fell in love and became the dear wife
Of Solomon Decker whose nickname was Pete.
It was also God's plan that they should meet.

Though it brought tears to her mother's eyes -
The time had come for them to say goodbyes.
Mama left her first home and went with her mate -
To their far-away home in a western state.

Four children blessed this home of theirs.
Three sons and one daughter brought joy, also tears.
Their first son stayed with them only five days!
Mama said, "He's with God ... a baby's soul He saves."

The time in this home went by so fast -
After sixteen years it was a thing of the past!
Double pneumonia took her husband's life -
Leaving three children and a grief-stricken wife.

Our loving Papa was called to Heaven -
When I (the daughter) was only seven.
One son was nine, and the other was four.
We missed our Papa whom we did adore.

But we felt safe with Mama there -
Not knowing the sorrow she had to bear.
A widow now with three children too -
She wondered what would be best to do.

After much prayer and deliberation -
She made a decision without hesitation.
Mama trusted God, and her faith was great -
So she made our new home in her native state.

The heart of our home in those growing-up years -
Was Mama who never showed us her fears.
She taught us to say our prayers at night -
To believe in God and to do what is right.

When we were grown with homes of our own -
It left our mother living alone.
She never re-married ... we were first in her life -
But poor health, by then, brought Mama much strife.

Crippling arthritis had taken its toll -
On the frail body of this dear soul.
We opened our homes to our invalid mother.
She lived first with one and then with another.

Although she had severe pains quite often -
She cheerfully tried our loads to soften.
Mama's health became exceedingly worse -
And finally she needed the care of a nurse.

For nine long years she received loving care -
In The Country Rest Home at Greenwood, Delaware.
Our Dear Saviour took her in 1975.
We buried her body, but her soul is alive!

Jesus said, "I go to prepare you a place."
We can be with Him by His Saving Grace!
Some day we'll join Mama around God's Throne.
He Has Opened The Door To Her Heavenly Home!!!

My Blog Poem #6

This poem has now been revised somewhat with a chorus and set to music.

"Remembering Papa"

In Loving Memory Of My Father
SOLOMON PETER (PETE) DECKER
(July 28, 1883 to February 14, 1930)

I recall those happy days ... so many years ago -
And my Papa who was wonderful and dear!
I was Papa's Little Girl, and I loved my Papa so!
I felt secure whenever he was near!

My favorite place to sit was on my Papa's lap -
When he came home I shouted with glee!
His pockets held "surprises" for me to unwrap -
And he saved all his pennies for me!

I remember the way I learned to write my name -
While I sat upon my Papa's knees.
I traced Papa's dots, and it seemed like a game -
As he was teaching me my A-B-C's!

It was strange to me when my dear Papa died -
For I was only a few months over seven!
I remember that I cried ... as my dear Mama cried -
When God called Papa up to Heaven!

In my little-girl mind I could not understand -
Why my loving Papa had to leave!
But God, in His mercy, wisely had planned -
A way for "Papa's Little Girl" to grieve!

A special gift from Papa not long before he died -
Was a big doll I told my secrets to!
Mama overheard me say to my doll ... as I cried:
"I'd rather have my Papa than you!"

I vaguely remember that simple childish deed -
Perhaps it's what The Good Lord had planned!
It was His loving way of supplying my need -
When He took Papa to That Heavenly Land!

John 14:3 - Jesus said:  "After I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to myself, so that you will be where I am."

My Blog Poem #5

The following little poem was written after the tragic accident which took the life of Princess Diana on August 31, 1997.

"A Prayer For A Princess"

In Loving Memory of
DIANA, PRINCESS OF WALES,
(1961 - 1997)

Dear God, we thank You for Princess "Di"
And for her short time on this earth.
Now, Lord, Let Her Wear A Crown On High -
For Heaven Knows Her True Worth!

Please, God, let Princess Diana know ...
There are so many people who care.
Grant her Your Peace ... And Lovingly Bestow -
Her Heavenly Crown With Jewels Rare!

My Blog Poem #4

Just A Silly Little Limerick!

"A Man From Kentucky"

There once was a man from Kentucky -

Who always seemed to be Lucky!

His friends all agreed ...

He was lucky indeed -

'Til they met his wife who was "Yucky"!

My Blog Poem #3

"Yesterday, Today, & Tomorrow"

Dedicated to Marge Evans, a friend I met at St. John United Methodist Church in Sebring, FL.
Marge inspired this poem by asking me to write a poem using the Three Title Words.

Three Precious Gifts are yours and mine!
They are useful in so many ways.
It's God Who gives these Gifts of Time!
Let us thank Him and give Him praise.

Our gift called YESTERDAY is gone,
But its memories are ours to treasure!
Since thoughts and memories linger on,
It's a gift beyond all measure!

We woke up this morning, and God was there
With our gift we call TODAY!
We have 24 hours - and blessings to share
With others along the way!

Our mystery gift is called TOMORROW.
All its mysteries God understands!
Although it may hold pain and sorrow,
Fear Not ... Tomorrow Is In God's Hands!

My Blog Poem #2

"My Smiley Face"

I'm basically a happy person, and I'm seldom depressed -
Joy comes from The Lord, and I am greatly blessed!
One morning health circumstances made me feel blue -
Then a little sign from God made me feel brand new!

That morning God gave me a cute smiley face -
As a sign of His love, His mercy, and grace!
It really is a fact ... and not just a rumor -
Our God is amazing with a great sense of humor!

My glass of ice water had been sitting for a while -
And when I picked it up I saw a lopsided smile!
There were two eyes, a nose, and a big crooked grin ...
So cute and funny - it brought a smile from within!

The Lord knew I needed a smile that day -
And it was His way of chasing my blues away!
Of all troubles and sadness - The Lord is aware -
So I thank You, Dear Lord, for showing me You care!

I drew an outline of my funny smiley face -
While the drops of water were still in place.
A copy of my smiley face (pictured above) -
Is an amazing revalation of God's perfect love!

A Poem By Thelma

              "The Puzzle"

There's a hidden secret I have for you!
Here in this poem - you'll find a clue.
Even though it's hard to find -
LOOK ... the mystery will soon unwind.
Making this puzzle is lots of fun -
And you'll know my secret when I'm done.

Don't give up - and you will see -
EASY it is - to find the key.
Can't you guess where the secret lies?
Keys are right before your eyes!
Eventually - my name you'll see.
Really - IT is the hidden key!

Hope you've enjoyed this little game -
It's easy now to find my name.
Look at the first letter of each line -
Looking downward - the name is mine!
